Something happened over the weekend that's so ironic it's not funny (no seriously, it's not), but I'll give you the short version. I have this portable hard drive that I've stored a few games on. The power cord for this drive has become rather finicky over the years, and won't for some reason work work with some outlets, mostly power strips. On Sunday I managed to get it to work with the power strip in my room. Then I went to look for an adapter I use to connect PlayStation controllers to my PC, but I couldn't find it anywhere! I've had it for about five years now but haven't used it recently. It's only $15 online, so if it doesn't turn up in a couple of days I'll just buy a new one.
On Earth Day a week ago, we were treated to a not-so-green surprise when the average national price of gasoline topped $3.50 / gallon, breaking the inflation-adjusted record set in March 1981. Since then, over the course of only one week, the average jumped ten cents. But if you think America has it bad, and we do, we're still on the relatively lower end of the spectrum. International gasoline price averages are actually hard to find, but Yahoo.de does have the stats for Germany. There, a gallon of regular gasoline costs $8.50 (1.435 / Liter). But get this: the site also lists the recommended price (günstigster preis), and guess what it is. ...$8.109 / gallon (1.369 / Liter)! Pretty much everything is more expensive in Europe anyway, though.
Further research:
- This page lists weekly prices of premium gasoline since 1996.
[link] Other graphs can be found here:
[link] (Click on "Graphs of current petroleum prices" and then "Motor gasoline" or "Diesel (Road)".)
- This is a listing of the gasoline prices in many different countries.
[link] Unfortunately it has not been updated since March 2005, but you can still use it to compare which countries are more or less expensive than each other. Another one can be seen here.
[link] Again, it has not been updated since 2005, but actually includes the United States, plus India, China, and others.
As for good news, a few heavy-hitters in entertainment are finally coming onto store shelves today. Madonna's 11th studio album,
Hard Candy, launches today, as does Rockstar Games'
Grand Theft Auto IV. The latter is already snapping up some controversy on the news - and not because it's really the 8th game in the series, lol. Let's just Rockstar left its "hot coffee" at home so we don't get more than we paid for. It is joining
Mario Kart Wii, apparently released on Sunday, in the ranks of blockbuster titles not released during the "Holiday Season" (September-December). Admittedly, GTA IV and
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (released in March) were scheduled for before the end of 2007 and got delayed, but whatever works works, I guess. And now for the summer movies...
Actually, now for the hall of fame. This week's inductee, ~
XJleiu, demonstrates dedication. He has drawn the character Kimiko (from
Xiaolin Showdown) in almost all... no, wait... ALL of her costumes from throughout the series. And they aren't half badly done, either.
